About this Date Difference Calculator
This tool measures the exact distance between two calendar dates. Enter a start date and an end date, and it returns the difference as a readable breakdown — for example "2 years, 4 months, and 11 days" — together with the totals people usually need: the full number of days, whole weeks, whole months, and hours between the two dates. It also splits the range into weekdays and weekend days, which is useful when you are counting working time rather than calendar time.
To use it, choose the earlier date in the first field and the later date in the second field. Click Calculate Difference to see the results, or Clear to start again. If you enter the dates the other way round, the calculator simply measures the gap between them and tells you which date came first, so you never get a negative result.
By default the calculation is exclusive of the end date, which is the usual way to count a duration: from the 1st to the 8th is 7 days. Tick Count the end date as a full day when you need an inclusive count instead, such as the number of days in a booking, a holiday, or a project that runs through its final day. That option adds one day to every total.
Common uses include working out notice periods and deadlines, counting the days until a holiday or event, checking the length of a hotel or rental stay, tracking how long a project or subscription has been running, and calculating gaps between employment dates on a CV. The month and day breakdown accounts for the different lengths of months and for leap years, so it reflects the real calendar rather than a 30-day approximation.
Note: Results are based on calendar dates only and ignore the time of day, time zones, and public holidays. The weekday count treats Monday to Friday as weekdays and Saturday and Sunday as weekend days, so adjust the figure yourself if your working week is different.
